Paul’s work on seagrasses includes four years of dedicated research on nutrient dynamics in tropical seagrass beds in Indonesia for his PhD, which gave him in-depth understanding of the relationship between seagrass health and water quality and hands-on experience with water quality monitoring and analysis.
He designed a successful, large-scale seed-based seagrass restoration program for the Dutch Wadden Sea and a Seagrass Mitigation Plan for a large pipeline installation project in Mozambique.
More recently, he led a large-scale, community-based seagrass restoration program in Kiribati for SPREP.
He is lead author of a landmark review paper on environmental impacts of dredging on seagrasses. With over 32 scientific publications on seagrass ecology, Paul is widely recognised for his expertise in this field.
